Velocity & depth imaging

A depth image is only as credible as the model behind it.

PearlingGeo treats velocity-model building as part of the imaging problem—not a disconnected preprocessing exercise.

Model building

Build, image, diagnose, update.

Depth imaging is an iterative relationship between the velocity model and the migrated gathers/image. Model changes must be justified by measurable improvements in focusing, residual moveout and geological consistency.

Initial modelAvailable velocities, horizons, well constraints and prior models.
Residual analysisGather moveout, focusing and spatially coherent imaging errors.
UpdateTomographic or model-building changes guided by the diagnostics.
Re-imageCompare the result objectively before accepting the model change.

Depth-imaging considerations

Model complexity only where justified.

Tomography

Residual moveout and image-quality diagnostics can drive iterative updates of the depth velocity model.

Anisotropy

VTI/TTI-type considerations may be required when anisotropic effects materially influence positioning and focusing.

Q / attenuation

Where attenuation affects bandwidth and phase, Q-aware imaging or compensation concepts can be assessed carefully.
